The Kyiv Zoo is one of the oldest in the CIS, having been founded in 1909 on the basis of the Botanical Garden. In 1913, it was moved to 32 Peremohy Avenue (formerly Brest-Lithuanian Avenue), where it is now located.
In the first years of its existence, the zoo replenished its collection of animals at the expense of patrons, including Tsar Nicholas II, artist S. Sviatoslavsky, Countess Brotska, and other famous people.
Currently, the zoo covers an area of 34 hectares. You can plan your route using the map located at the entrance. In addition to a large number of animals, the zoo has a small amusement park, where, among other things, there is a Ferris wheel that allows you to see the entire territory from a height.
The zoo performs not only entertainment and educational functions, but also scientific research on animal behavior and rehabilitation, as well as work on the preservation of rare species.
Prices in Kyiv Zoo in 2023
An adult ticket costs 120 UAH. Full-time students and holders of the Kyivan Card can visit the zoo for 70 UAH. There are also several privileged categories of visitors for whom the entrance costs 60 UAH:
- Participants of military operations, including war veterans;
- Children aged 5-16;
- Liquidators of the Chernobyl accident of the first category;
- Pensioners;
- Military personnel in regular service;
- Disabled people of I and II groups.
The following categories of visitors can enter the Kyiv Zoo free of charge:
- Children under 5 years old;
- Orphans under 16 years old;
- Disabled since childhood, up to 16 years old.
The institution also offers regular promotions. Every first Wednesday, members of large families can visit the zoo for 20 UAH per person. Every Wednesday, there is a “Visitor’s Day”: any person can enter for only 60 UAH.
In addition, it is possible to purchase season tickets for 10 or 20 visits for adults and children. A 10-visit pass for an adult will cost UAH 800, and a 20-visit pass for a child will cost UAH 1400. A subscription for 10 visits for a child costs UAH 350, for 20 visits – UAH 550.

There are 368 species of animals in the zoo, including not only mammals and birds, but also fish, amphibians, reptiles and invertebrates. In total, there are about 3400 animals in the zoo.
Among the large animals in the zoo are mighty tigers and African lions, giraffes, Indian elephants, red deer and gorilla. Monkey lovers can see charming capuchins.
Among the birds, magnificent flamingos, formidable golden eagles, and majestic helmeted casuarinas are especially popular.
The reptiles are represented by several species of pythons, including the royal python, a large number of turtles, snakes, including an anaconda, iguanas, and even a caiman.
The zoo also has honorable old-timers who have lived to a record age for their species. For example, a casuarina nicknamed Kazik is over 60 years old, and the only gorilla in Ukraine, Tonya, is 45 years old.

Excursions
The Zoo offers 12 different types of excursions with different topics and for different ages. The cost of the excursion is 400 UAH (the price of the entrance ticket is not included), they are conducted in groups of up to 25 people. The duration is 1.5-2 hours.
For those who visit Kyiv Zoo for the first time, the general sightseeing tour is suitable. A professional guide will tell you about the history of the zoo and its inhabitants. This option is suitable for schoolchildren and adults.
For the youngest children (up to 7–10 years old), there is a “fairy-tale” excursion. It is perfect for lovers of fairy tales and cartoons. On this tour, children will learn about the prototypes of their favorite characters: Bagheera the panther, Kaa the python, Dumbo the elephant, giraffes (like Melman from Madagascar) and many other amazing animals.
Sightseeing tour by electric car (not available in winter) is suitable for small groups of up to 4 people, according to the number of seats. It will allow you to get acquainted in a comfortable and detailed way with the many animals presented in the zoo: beautiful flamingos and magnificent pelicans, camels and bears, as well as elephant, giraffes, hippo, gorilla, and many others.

Working hours
The zoo is open seven days a week. From Tuesday to Sunday from 9.00 to 17.00. Monday is a shortened day: from 12.00 to 17.00.

Getting to the zoo in Kyiv
The zoo is located in the center of Kyiv, at 32 Peremohy Avenue. The gate opens directly onto the avenue.
You can get to the zoo by subway, bus, trolleybus, minibus, or taxi. The nearest metro station is the Polytechnic Institute, located just 300 meters from the entrance. After reaching it, you should cross Peremohy Prospect and walk along it to the northwest to the gate.
Opposite the entrance is the Zoo ground transportation stop. You can get there by bus (routes 2, 118, 306), trolleybus (routes 5, 7k, 92N, 93N, 94N) or taxi (routes 189, 427, 429, 442, 442d, 465, 518, 575).
Taxis can be called through the Uber, Uklon, Bolt, Express, or Bond apps.
