Church on the Island — the symbol of Lake Bled, the Church of the Assumption of Mary. Legend says it was built on an old Slavic shrine dedicated to the goddess Živa. The shrine was destroyed during clashes between pagans and Christians. In the 11th century, a Romanesque chapel stood here, rebuilt in Gothic style in the 15th century and later in Baroque style after an earthquake.
The current form dates to the 17th century, after another earthquake. The church’s 56-meter bell tower, built in the 15th century, stands out with its three bells. To reach the top, you must climb 99 steps.
St. Martin’s Church — a beautiful Neo-Gothic church in Bled, built in the early 20th century on the site of an old Gothic church. Designed by renowned Slovenian architect Plečnik, its interior features frescoes.
