8 must-see places in Phuket

Arriving in Phuket, you might feel like collapsing onto one of its beautiful beaches, interrupting this blissful idleness only to indulge in fruits and seafood. But there are many amazing places worth exploring if you find yourself on this wonder of an island. Mandry Club shares the most unforgettable ones.

James Bond Island

The island’s original name is Koh Tapu (meaning “nail” in Thai), but tourist guides renamed it after the 1974 James Bond movie was filmed here. The island is best viewed from the water, as it’s not exactly suitable for beach relaxation—it’s essentially a 20-meter-tall column rising from the waters of Phang Nga Bay.

The Big Buddha

The Big Buddha of Phuket is equally appealing to Buddhists and tourists, so it’s always crowded around the statue. The 45-meter-tall seated deity sits atop Nakkerd Hill, towering 400 meters above sea level. Nearby, observation decks offer breathtaking views. The Buddha’s pedestal houses a Buddhism Museum.

Wat Chalong

Wat Chalong is the most famous of Phuket’s 30+ Buddhist temples. Souvenir shops are always open here, and during holidays, fairs sell traditional Thai food, household items, and, of course, all kinds of Buddha figurines.

Sirinat National Park

Sirinat National Park features four wild beaches: Bang Tao, Mai Khao, Nai Thon, and Nai Yang. All attract tourists with their pristine white sand and untouched, almost wild nature, including mangrove forests. Ecologists often visit to observe sea turtles nesting here.

Sunday Market

In the heart of Phuket Town, the bustling Sunday Market takes over the pedestrian street Thalang Road every week. Here, you can buy handmade souvenirs, sample local food, and immerse yourself in the colorful Thai way of life.

Siam Niramit Show

This popular tourist program includes a visit to an ethnic village in Siam Niramit Park, performances by Thai artists, and a meal at an authentic restaurant. The highlight is a theatrical performance, with subtitles helping tourists understand the story.

Bang Pae Waterfall

One of Phuket’s largest waterfalls is located in Khao Phra Thaeo National Park. Water cascades down 10-meter-high rocky ledges, collecting in natural pools at different levels.

Phuket FantaSea Show

Another grand show popular with tourists is Phuket FantaSea in the “Fantasy” park. It features theatrical and circus performances with clowns, acrobats, magicians, and even a show with 30 elephants. The 1.5-hour spectacle tells the story of Prince Kamala, a hero from an ancient Thai legend.
