What tourists will be served instead of pizza and hamburgers.

Turkish authorities and representatives of the hotel industry are proposing to change the approach to food service in hotels. The head of the Association of Professional Hotel Managers of Turkey, Hakan Saatcioglu, has put forward an initiative to remove burgers and pizza from All Inclusive hotels. Instead, guests will be offered dishes from the national cuisine. In his opinion, fast food does not reveal the richness of Turkish gastronomy, and tourists can always try it outside the hotel for an additional fee.

Previously, Turkish hotels proposed replacing the “all-inclusive” system with an “à la carte” format, in which guests order dishes from the menu in exactly the amount they plan to eat.

The head of the Ankara Young Entrepreneurs Association, Mustafa Korkutata, stated that in hotels operating under the “all-inclusive” system, up to 65% of all food products end up in the trash daily. Most often, bread, fruits, and vegetables are thrown away.

Per tourist, this amounts to 220 to 400 grams of wasted food daily. In monetary terms, such losses cost approximately 50 billion Turkish lira (1.5 billion dollars) per year.

Representatives of the tourism industry propose restructuring the service format and starting cooperation with local restaurants. For example, in the evening, guests could go for walks around resort towns and then have dinner not at the hotel, but at city establishments with which the resort has a contract.
