Hidden Thailand: Off-the-Beaten-Path Destinations You Haven’t Heard Of

Thailand is a diverse country and not a new discovery for tourists. Its snow-white beaches and crystal-clear water, ancient temples, fresh seafood, and excellent hotels with spa centers — all this is undoubtedly beautiful, but no longer novel. However, exoticism and paths untrodden by mass tourists still exist in this country.

We’re sharing new tourist destinations in Thailand that you probably haven’t heard of yet.

Bangkok

In the central part of Thailand, 70 km from Bangkok, lies the province of Ayutthaya, famous for its temples and palaces. The main local attraction is Wat Mahathat, or more precisely, the Buddha head entangled in tree roots. The head is considered sacred, and the temple itself was once royal. In another temple, Wat Phanan Choeng, you’ll find the oldest and largest Buddha statue, while the former summer palace of the royal family, Bang Pa-In, is simply very beautiful, with gardens and fountains. Architecture isn’t the only thing worth paying attention to in Ayutthaya: the local cuisine is very interesting. Among the local delicacies are river shrimp and unusual desserts, such as corn candies.

A two-hour drive from Bangkok brings you to another interesting province — Kanchanaburi. Here it’s worth visiting the Three Pagodas Pass on the state border, the elephant village of Muang Sing (you can ride elephants and, if you wish, even bathe them), and Sai Yok National Park with its caves and waterfalls — one of the most beautiful in Thailand.

Pattaya

Every tourist knows about Pattaya, its beaches and nightlife. Rayong Province is a less famous resort, and that is partly its charm. Here you’ll find ancient Buddhist temples, the island of Koh Samet — one of the most picturesque in the country and part of a marine reserve — and in May, Rayong hosts a colorful Fruit Festival.

Chanthaburi Province is beloved for its luxurious nature: there are many mountains, forests, waterfalls, and beaches, and the region is also known for the abundance and variety of exotic fruits. There is even a fruit farm here where they grow durian, rambutan, mangosteen, and more.

Tourists go to Koh Chang for diving in crystal-clear water, deserted beaches with snow-white sand, and picturesque views from the observation deck. Animal lovers will appreciate the elephant farm and the monkey temple.

Phuket

Even on popular Phuket, there are places where mass tourists haven’t yet paved a path. First and foremost is the Khao Lak National Park. This is an excellent place for ecotourism, secluded beach holidays, and diving.

On the Koh Yao islands, there are beaches, picturesque cliffs, and exotic animals (for example, you can encounter a hornbill here). For comfort, it’s better to go to Koh Yao Noi: there are good hotels and restaurants, while on Koh Yao Yai there is virtually no tourist infrastructure, but instead, there is nature untouched by man and ancient rock paintings.

Krabi

In Satun Province, the main attractions are picturesque national parks with mountains, lagoons, and waterfalls, as well as an unusual mosque in the style of modern Islamic architecture and a crocodile cave.

Trang is famous, above all, for its beaches, as well as the Morakot Cave with its bright emerald water.

How to Get to Thailand Today

As of 2026, there are no direct flights from Ukraine. The most convenient way to reach Thailand is a combined route:

  1. Travel by ground transport to the airports of Poland (Warsaw, Krakow), Moldova (Chisinau), or Austria (Vienna).

  2. Use flights of European or Asian airlines (Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Emirates) with a layover in Doha, Dubai, or Istanbul.

The journey is long, but the picturesque beaches and impressions are worth it. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring summer closer for those who are very tired of winter!
