<p>The port at the site of Portofino was founded in the 1st century AD. The village itself is mentioned in the 10th century. In the 12th century, it became part of the Rapallo commune. In the 13th century, the settlement was included in the Genoese Republic. The convenient natural bay was small for large trading and military vessels, so throughout most of its history, it was mainly used by fishing boats.</p>

<p>Castello Brown is a medieval castle from the 15th century and one of the main attractions of Portofino. Initially, the main function of this structure was to protect the harbor. Now the castle is a house-museum.</p>
<p>Church of Saint George is a religious structure founded in the 12th century, which stores the relics of the saint of the same name &#8211; the patron of Portofino. Initially, the church was built in the Romanesque style. In the 17-18th centuries, it was rebuilt in the Baroque style. During World War II, an air bomb destroyed the building. In the 50s of the 20th century, the church was restored in the Baroque style of the 18th century.</p>
