The most famous statues of Kyiv that are associated with the capital of Ukraine

There are some statues of Kyiv that form the tourist face of the Ukrainian capital. When you see each one in a single copy, you immediately associate it with Kyiv. We have collected the top 5 most famous statues of Kyiv.

Motherland Mother

One of the largest and most famous, but not the oldest or the youngest. This statue appeared in Kyiv in May 1981 (officially unveiled on May 9). In particular, her image can be seen on many photos, paintings, and videos that show and demonstrate Kyiv, which allows us to associate the image of the Motherland with this city. You can also find it on many tourist brochures and tourist routes. Its height (one hundred and two meters in total to the highest point of the sword tip) does not allow it to remain invisible, and it is clearly visible from three of the four bridges across the Dnipro River (as of this writing, the fifth bridge has not yet been commissioned). When people talk about Kyiv’s statues, this one is one of the first to come to mind.

Monument to Prince Volodymyr

When people talk about the oldest statues in Kyiv, the monument to Prince Volodymyr takes the first place of honor. It appeared in Kyiv back in 1853. For a long time, it was a lighthouse for the river fleet and is illuminated. Its image can often be seen on many materials dedicated to the city, as well as and descriptions of Kyiv. It has already taken its place among the list of famous statues of Kyiv and forms the tourist face of the capital.

Monument to Bohdan Khmelnytsky

One of Kyiv’s most famous monuments, surrounded by many legends and myths. It often appears in images of the capital in various ways, from tourism to current events. A little younger than the previous one, it appeared in July 1888, but the statues of Kyiv compete with it for popularity, and the monument to Bohdan Khmelnytsky continues to hold its place. Its location in the historic center of the city, through which most tourist routes pass, makes it impossible to avoid.

Statue of the founders of Kyiv, Chek, Khoriv and their sister Lybid

This pedestal adorned the capital in 1982 and its image can be seen not only on materials, but also on Ukrainian banknotes. Located on the banks of the Dnipro River, it is well known both in Ukraine and abroad. When people talk about statues of Kyiv dedicated to the city’s founders, this one is one of the first to come to mind, despite the fact that another statue is located directly on Independence Square in the center of the capital.

Independence Monument

It is one of the youngest in the top ten, having been unveiled in 2001 on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. The most famous statue of Kyiv was established among the top most famous statues of Kyiv after the Maidan resistance of 2013-2014, when the events in the Ukrainian capital were broadcast around the world. From now on, it is confidently associated with Kyiv and its image is quite well-known.
