Glasgow (English: Glasgow) is the largest city in Scotland, located in the northwest of the United Kingdom. It is one of the main cultural centers of the United Kingdom (excluding London) with typical Scottish charm and beautiful architecture. However, throughout the 16th and part of the 17th centuries, it remained a provincial town. In the second half of the 17th century, Glasgow transformed into a major center of transatlantic trade. After severe fires, wooden structures were replaced by stone buildings. In the 18th century, the Industrial Revolution turned it into one of the largest industrial centers in Britain. In the 19th century, it became the largest city in Scotland. Today, Glasgow is one of the most successful cities in the United Kingdom.
Glasgow boasts a rich architectural heritage, including magnificent Victorian buildings and several medieval landmarks. Many buildings in the old town were constructed from red or light sandstone and date back to the 18th and 19th centuries.
Glasgow Cathedral – a medieval cathedral, which is the most significant historical monument in Glasgow. The cathedral was founded in the 12th century and is dedicated to St. Mungo (who is also buried here). This ancient building is a fine example of Scottish Gothic architecture.
